Workshop Date & Time: June 30, 2026 (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

Location: Weiser Hall 1010, 500 Church St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109

This one-day workshop introduces K–12 educators across Michigan (both pre-service and in-service) to effective ways of teaching about different regions of the world through graphic novels. Participants will explore how comics can be used to engage students with global perspectives, histories, and cultures.

The workshop will cover:

  • History of comics in the United States and around the world
  • Introduction to Comics Studies and using comics in the classroom
  • Conversations with scholars and creators
  • Teaching guides and classroom resources from Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, and beyond

Benefits for Participants:
Michigan K–12 teachers will receive SCECH hours. Upon completing the program, participants will also receive graphic novel books and teaching resources for classroom use.
